“Funny Sunday” by JQ

I usually take Sunday’s off around here, but this time, I wanted to share this before it became stale…

My inlaws emailed today… they do so several times a day… anyway, they emailed about a unique occurence in their church (or what passes for a church in their neck of the woods). It seems they’ve been attending a worship service held at the local… now, don’t pass out in laughter or anything… drive-in theater! Yep, drive-by evangelism…gotta love it! Anyway, as if that were not weird enough in and of itself. Okay, so can’t quite wrap my head around this business of hanging a speaker over your window, leaning back in your seat with hot dogs and sodas and calling it church. Ahhh, but to each his own…

Anyway, the funny thing, if you choose to laugh that is, is that today… the first in the five years they’ve attended the drive-in church (coffee delivered to your door free!), they had a regulation baptism. Now, I have to ask, HOW??? How does one do a total emersion baptism at a drive in theater???? So, I find out that they transported in a cow trough (gee, wouldn’t the soda foutain sprayer work?).

Oh, I just let my mind slip away with me, picturing the scene. Baptism is a serious thing. Doesn’t make a difference to me when, how, or where it’s performed as long as the heart and soul of the individual is truly believing in salvation through the grace of God made manifest through his son.

Just giving you something to think about the next time you pull into a drive-in on Saturday night, get drunk on what you stowed in the trunk, share some private moments with your partner of choice and then pass out. Don’t worry too much, when you wake in the morning, you’ll still be in the right place to ask forgiveness for your night of drunken lasciviousness!

I didn’t grow up with all the “tech” so I had never even seen a DW when we married. We’d moved 150 miles from home and were living in an small 2bdrm apt. in Columbus, Ohio! He’d showed me how to use the convience and I did so several times, totally fascinated by it. Then the awful day I arrived. I ran out of dw detergent, and thinking practical and all, I reached up and grabbed the dishsoap. It works in the sink, right? Besides, why was I paying $3 a bottle for cloudy dw detergent, when dishsoap was $0.50 a bottle..preposterous. Being the frugal person I am, I gladly filled the little cups on the door, even added extra for the pots and pans scrub cycle. We’d had baked beans that night. I closed the door, thinking.

“Ah, there you go. I just saved a whole $2.50. I could use that money to buy a gallon of milk, or cheese. Wasn’t I the greatest budgeter around!”

I cheerfully curled up in my rocker with my textbooks to study (I was a freshman at DeVry University at the time, running with a 36 credit hour semester!)! I studied for several minutes, listening to the now familar sound of water beating the hell outa my dishes. Then, it happened… my kitten sneezed. It drew my attention…she never ever sneezed, it was a first so I wanted to catch her reaction for my journal. I looked up…and up…and up!

Suds to the ceiling! I screamed, and my husband came running out of the back bedroom that served as his office. He tore threw the suds yelling, “What the hell?”

Oh, you should have seen him, all covered in foam, staring at me in horror. Then, he suddenly began to laugh…he knew what I had done! And, I might add, he’s never EVER let me forget it! He took a whole roll of film to capture it….and sent the pics home to family!

AGGGHHHH!

And yes, it’s definitely one of those “adult supervision” things! lol!!!!
